Lakewood is a collection of old neighborhoods, dating back to the early 1900s to the 1950s, including Lakewood proper, Lakewood Heights, Parks Estates, Wilshire Heights, Gastonwood-Coronado Hills, Hollywood Heights, and Belmont; among others. Commonly, these neighborhoods are grouped together under the heading of Lakewood. The M-Streets, and other Old East Dallas subdivisions are included many times. Currently, there is a large number of Historic and Conservation Districts reflecting of Craftsman, Prairie-Four Squares, Tudors, Spanish and Mediterranean Eclectic and Early Ranch homes, many of native Austin stone. The homes range from modest two-bedroom bungalows to massive estates, both old and new large lots. There is also a fair number of duplexes, four-plexes and small apartment complexes and new townhomes and condos being built on some of the adjacent areas to Lakewood.
